Panama’s Colón free zone trades $24 billion

Major projects such as the highway entering the city, an important road bridge and the fame of its free zone are bolstering the Panamanian city of Colón as a world leading logistics center.\

The free zone’s president recognized that the free zone has grown spectacularly. “Just two years ago, exports and imports combined came to $18 billion. This year we are reaching $24 billion,” he said.\
\
The zone provides Panama’s fiscal authorities with 7.8 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product, aboiut $1.6 billion a year.\
