Panama's debt will surge by highest since dictatorship days, newspaper claims

Monday, July 18, 2011

When Panama’s government of businessmen leaves office in 2014 the public debt will be the highest since the dictatorship years, says the daily La Prensa.

The International Monetary Fund warned earlier in the year, after meetings with President Ricardo Martinelli, that Panama's spending on infrastructure projects was too much to soon.

The total increase in debt that the government will bequeath approaches the debt accumulated by all previous administrations combined, says La Prensa.
