Panama's economy picked up steam in August, but slowing work on the expansion of the country's canal and an end to some public works projects continued to drag on the pace of growth.
Panama's economy grew by 5.54 percent in August compared to the same period a year earlier, the national statistics office said.
The figure was above the 5.2 percent pace reached in July and the second highest reading this year.
