Panama’s Martinelli to announce national emergency over severe floods

The president of Panama, Ricardo Martinelli, said he will declare a statem of emergency because of the damage caused by “the worst floods in Panama’s history”.
 
The measure will help the government to provide relief and seek international aid to contain the emergency which has cost 10 deaths and left more than 4,000 homeless.
 
The worst affected area is around the capital. In the municipality of Chapa more than 1,500 people were evacuated because of fears that a dam woiuld burst.
