Panama to reveal new canal toll structure

Thursday, November 27, 2014

The Panama Canal Authority will announce a new toll structure by this year that will start once the expanded waterway opens in 2016, the administrator said.

The enlarged channel will be operational in the first quarter of 2016 after construction is finished by the end of next year, Jorge Quijano, the administrator and chief executive officer of the Panama Canal Authority, said.

The new tolls will be one of the primary factors determining whether LNG shipped from the Gulf of Mexico to Asia is competitive with other global suppliers, Chubu Electric Power Co. Executive Officer Toshimi Tsuchiya said.
