Patuca III hydro scheme wins breathing space in Honduras

After years of technical delays and financial snags, the 104 megawatts Patuca III hydroelectric scheme has won a breathing space from the state power utility of Honduras, the ENEE.

The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China has postponed a $349 million payment that was due within days but has now been postponed till 2021.

Meanwhile, the ENEE and Sinohydro which is building the project, have been asking international arbitrators to determine who has to pick up the $65 million tab for the final stage of the construction, the clearance of forest surrounding the dam.
