Plan to curb migration begins in El Salvador

Friday, June 21, 2019

Mexico and El Salvador signed a cooperation agreement that includes a $30 million Mexican donation for reforestation in the Central American nation, amid increased pressure from the United States to slow a surge of migrants toward the U.S. border.

The project to reforest some 50,000 hectares, with the expected creation of 20,000 jobs, was presented as Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele met his counterpart Andrés Manuel López Obrador in southern Mexico, the Associated Press reports.
