Plans for proposals to legalize casinos meet political crossfire in Guatemala
Tuesday, August 24, 2010
Proposals to legalise casinos in Guatemala have been given the green-light by the country’s financial regulator, but opposition politicians and foreign gaming companies are far from supportive.
Now Congressman Mariano Rayo has pushed forward with drafting a bill that aims to license and tax casino gambling and crack down on money laundering in the country.
Rayo’s proposed casino legalisation, though, received a lukewarm response from Amsterdam-listed casino operator Thunderbird Resorts, who run gaming parlours in Guatemala.
