Plans to expand Panama's Balboa port face obstacles

Friday, October 11, 2013

An expansion plan for Panama's Balboa Port is facing obstacles.

The port's operator, Panama Ports Company, wants to use land in the region of Corazal, but the Canal Authority said it will deny access to the firm as it plans to build another port in that region.

Panama Ports Company was eyeing Corazal for its characteristics which would allow for expansion of its docks and give a more efficient and safer service, said the company's director for corporate affairs, Rommel Troetsch.
