Friday, October 8, 2010

El Salvador’s police and army will carry out a huge deployment in order to protect the nation’s coffee crops.

The national police chief, Carlos Ascencio, said that his officers seek to ensure that coffee workers and producers are safe in the growing areas, transport routes and grain stalls.

Since last August army units have been strengthened to reduce criminal activity of powerful gangs in the country, known as maras.
