Political turmoil erodes confidence in Guatemala

Wednesday, November 7, 2018

Turmoil in Guatemalan politics is eroding business confidence, but the impact on the nation's exports to the United States remain to be seen.

Experts on the economy say that investors in Guatemala fear corruption more than taxes. "Most business people seek clear rules," one told the authoritative just-style website on the international garment and textile website.

Central bank statistics appear to back this claim. In January a quarter of private-sector analysts believe that the business climate could improve compared to the previous six months. That figure fell to 8 percent in August and zero in September.
