Poll points to Nicaragua as safest in Central America

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

A regional public-opinion poll released last week would seem to support Nicaragua’s claim to be the safest country in Central America.

A CID-Gallup survey asking people if they have been robbed or assaulted in the past four months suggests Nicaragua has less street crime than its neighbors.

Across the region, 19 percent of Nicaraguans said they have been robbed or assaulted in the past four months, compared to 21 percent of Costa Ricans, 22 percent of Panamanians, 28 percent of Salvadorans, 29 percent of Guatemalans and 33 percent of Hondurans.
