Portability numbers still don’t add up, says Salvador regulator

The 7.5 million users of cellular services in El Salvador will have to wait considerably longer for the introduction of number portability.
“We need a year and a half to be operational with portability,” said Luis Méndez, the telecoms regulator. “It’s a very big investment, the companies have to update their equipment, and a new body has to be established to operate the system,” he added.
Only three months ago, the Legislative Assembly reformed the Telecommunications Law in order to facilitate portability within a very short term.
