Power connection between Colombia and Panama to save Darien Gap environment

Wednesday, July 21, 2010

Plans for an electrical interconnection between Colombia and Panama represent no damage at all to the environment of the Darien Gap, said experts who attended a seminar on the project.

Though no decision has yet been made on the route, one relatively low- cost option would be to go partly by land, partly by the coast.

The $500 million project will cost $500 million, to be financed by the International Finance Corporation and the Inter-American Development Bank.
