Pressure mounts on Costa Rica-Nicaragua border

Several thousand immigrants from Africa, Asia and Haiti have arrived in Costa Rica in recent months on their way to the United States.

Many have gotten stuck there — with no money and no desire to return home, and no way to get across the border into Nicaragua without the dubious help of smugglers.
