Region appeals for aid amid severe drought

The Central American agriculture ministers have asked the international community to help those affected by a severe drought that is blighting the region.

El Salvador announced that the Central American Farming Council has called on aid donors "to join efforts of Central American governments that are trying to help producers, and the population in general, to ease the impact of the drought.

El Salvador has taken emergency measures for a drought that has lasted for more than a month in which tens of thousands of peasant farmers have lost their crops.
