Region’s oil imports soared to $3 billion through May

Oil imports to Central America soared between January and May of this year compared with the same period of 2009, reaching a total of some $3 billion said the Costa Rican state refinery company, Recope.
Costa Rica led the growth in oil imports, which rose by 85 percent over the period to $734 million.
El Salvador’s oil imports reached $623 million, Guatemala $968 million, and Honduras $358 million.
