Region speeds up renewable energy production

Monday, November 11, 2013

Over the past years Central America has increased its green energy production to 60 percent.

But using renewable resources has cost the region some $5 billion, according to a study by Bloomberg New Energy Finance and the Multilateral Investment Fund.

"Central American countries don't have traditional fuels, such as fossil or nuclear, used in developed countries, however, their geographical position allows them to use renewables," said Salvador Rivas, coordinator of a regional energy alliance.
