Norway’s Scatec Solar last October announced the start of consruction of a 50 megwatt plant in Honduras´ Nacaoma Department.

With operations on five continents, Scatec last year reported earnings before interest, tax and deprecation of the equivalent of $80 million, double that of 2014.

A 150 megwatt solar plant meanwhile started operations in the region of Honduras in May 2015.

Developed by Inversiones y Representaciones Electromecánicas, S.A., founded in 2012 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras and headed by Napoleón Larach, the $230 millon dollar proyect was largely financed by the World Bank’s International Finance Group, as well as Finnfund.

The plant covers 1 million square meters of land with nearly 500,000 polycrystalline modules, made by Canadian Solar.

In Mexico, The Aura Solar Project in Baja California Sur went into operation in 2014.

The 40-megawatt plant was developed by Gauss Energía and is owned by Corporacion Aura Solar.
