Region to receive $230 million for renewable energy
Thursday, August 22, 2013
The European Investment Bank has agreed to lend $230 million to support investment in hydro power, wind, geothermal and photo voltaic renewable energy schemes across Central America, the European Commission said.
Europe's long-term lending institution's joint program with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration will enable more than $500 million of investment in projects in Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Panama.
The large-scale initiative will help reduce regional dependence on fossil fuel imports and diminish carbon emissions from energy production.
