Regional ministries gather in El Salvador in efforts to forge customs union
Tuesday, August 24, 2010
Delegates from the Economy ministries of Central America met in San Salvador for a meeting to eliminate trade obstacles in advance of the region’s long-awaited customs union.
The aim is to remove barriers to cross-border merchandise, especially in products from small and medium-sized firms.
Central America has been trying to introduce a customs union for 50 years, but conflicts among governments and companies have so far blocked the proposal.
