Remittances in El Salvador grow by 2.2 percent but failed to reach target for year

El Salvador closed a total of $3.54 billion remittances last year, a 2.2 percent increase.
The government, however, had expected 5 percent growth in remittances.
Income from the remittances, which support El Salvador’s dollar-based economy, are sent by some 2.8 million Salvadoran emigrants, of which 2.5 million live in the United States.
