Remittances to El Salvador hit $2.7 billion in six months

Wednesday, July 18, 2018

El Salvador's emigrants sent home $2.7 billion in remittances in the first six months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 9.3 percent.

In June alone, $461 million was sent, an 11 percent increase.

A study by the Inter-American Development Bank recent forecast that remittances from the Northern Triangle countries -- Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras -- would likely to be reduced this year because of a much stricter labor and migratory environment in the United States.
