Remittances to Guatemala begin the year with a $305 million bang in January

Family remittances received by Guatemala grew 7.7 per cent in January, compared to the same month last year, according to the Bank of Guatemala.
In money terms, this translates to $305 million, while in 2011 it was $283 million.
Remittances from the United States, where more than 1.5 million Guatemalans live, are expected to grow 1.5 per cent this year.
