Remittances to Guatemala by emigrants surge by 9.5 percent through June
Guatemalan emigrants sent home 9.5 percent more in remittances in the first half of the year compared with the same period of 2010.
From January through June, the remittances came to $2.17 billion.
For the whole of last year, the 1.3 million Guatemalans who lived outside the country -- the vast majority in the United States -- sent home $4.13 billion in remittances.
