Remittances to Guatemala grew 9 percent in the first six months of the year, compared with the same period last year, the Bank of Guatemala said.
During that period, the country received $2.7 billion in remittances.
The growth comes despite a rise in the number of deportees from the United States, where some 2 million Guatemalans live, of which the government estimates 60 percent are living as illegal immigrants.
