Remittances to Guatemala soar

Remittances to Guatemala have risen sharply in the first quarter. The nation’s emigrants sent $1.7 billion to their families back home, a 19 percent increase on the same period of last year.
The central bank estimates that this year remittances could rise to $7 billion, a 10 percent increase compared with 2015.
