Remittances to Honduras go full steam ahead

The remittances that Honduran emigrants send to their families back home stood at $2.3 billion in the first half of this year, some 9 percent more than in the same period of last year.

In the whole of last year, remittances came to $4.3 billion. Now the authorities have a target this year of $4.6 billion.

The population of Honduras is more than 9 million, but some one million Hondurans live in the United States, where about 80 percent of the remittances are sent.
