Remittances to Honduras reach $4 billion and rising

Thursday, November 1, 2018

As the "caravan" of Hondurans heads for the southern border of the United States, Hondurans who already live in the US have been sending remittances that have been boosting their homeland's troubled economy.

Family remittances, especially those from the US, amounted to $4 billion at the close of October, the central bank reported.

The remittances amount to 40 percent of all of the foreign exchange earnings of Honduras. The year-on-year increase amounts to 9.7 percent.
