Rising oil prices begin to hammer Central America

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

Central American countries were dealt a severe blow this week by high prices in the international oil market. Fuel prices were increased in Honduras and Guatemala. Meanwhile, the public services regulator in Costa Rica authorized a 3.35 percent increase in taxi fares.

Last week, yet another increase in fuel prices in Guatemala led to a rise in bus fares. As a result, thousands of people staged blockades on the routes.
