Sacyr Vallehermoso seeks bids for $400 million gates

Spanish construction company Sacyr Vallehermoso will open bidding this week for the choice of a shipyard to build the sluice gates for the expansion of the Panama Canal.

The contract is expected to be worth $400 or $500 million.

The Sacyr-led consortium that is expanding the canal is expected to receive the offers this Wednesday.

The consortium is expecting a large number of offers from shipyards including those from China, Japan, Korea and Europe.
