The huge mine in Panama that is being operated by First Quantum Minerals of Canada is going to launch exports of copper concentrate in June, despite a potential threat by the Supreme Court that could check the project.
First Quantum's manager in Panama, Todd Clewett, explained that the company asked for clarification on the future and expected a prompt response. But there has been no reply.
Said Clewett: "Unless there's clarification, we are not affected."
Construction of the mine cost $6.3 billion, Panama's biggest ever foreign investment. Exports are slated to be about $2 billion a year, reports Efe in Spanish.
