Salume quits as head of state-owned Río Lempa electricity utility in El Salvador

Monday, February 21, 2011

Nicolás Salume resigned as chief executive of the state-owned power utility, the Río Lempa Hysroelectric Commission, or CEL.

Salume explained that the government has been trying to reduce electricity tariffs to a point that would “bankrupt the CEL”.

The former chief also said that he had worked as hard as he could to ensure the completion of the El Cimarrón and Chaparral hydro projects, but the government failed to play its part.
