Security boosts cost of regional trade by 15 percent

Spending on security raises the costs of transporting merchandise for companies in Central America, especially in the "Northern Triangle" of Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.

Convoys of about four or five trucks are being accompanies by up to 15 armed guards with vehicles front and rear, experts say.
