Shipping firms seek alternatives to Puerto Cortés

Guatemalan and Costa Rican ports on the Caribbean are the preferred choice for an increasing number of shipping companies, as they complain that Puerto Cortes in Honduras is inefficient.

Some ships have to stay in the bay at Puerto Cortés for days before being given clearance to dock, which increases operation costs.

"Companies that export products from Honduras wish to change to Costa Rican or Guatemalan ports," said business leader Jacobo Kattan.
