Smartphone sales are buzzing in Nicaragua

Sales of smatphones in Nicaragua, one of the Western Hemisphere’s poorest nations, are surging. Nine in 10 Nicaraguans have a cell phone and eight of them either already have a smatphone or want one.

Smartphone imports have risen to $64 million, a big number in a small economy. Not surprisingly, however, the high prices of regular imports have created a black market, experts say.
