Some 70 percent of copper to be produced by Inmet Mining in Panama will be sent markets in Asia through the Canal

Some 70 percent of the copper concentrates to be exported by Inmet Mining’s local affiliate, Minera Panamá, will be transported to Asia through the Panama Canal. The use of the Canal will boost the government’s finances.

Ernest Mast, the president of Minera Panamá, said that construction of the mine is expected to begin next year. It is to be completed by 2016.

The mine’s request for environmental permits are currently being evaluated by the Panamanian authorities.
