Some Costa Rican regions face tough times for tourism after years of prosperity

Tourism, the goose that for years laid the golden eggs for Costa Rica’s economy, has plummeted into crisis. Even regions that until recently were prosperous, are now facing hard times.

Some hoteliers say their businesses are racking up losses, while others are on the brink of bankruptcy.

Some 11 tourism companies already face judicial problems, while others are living by their fingernails.
