Special zones being set up in Guatemala
Requests are being invited from regions and groups of companies what want to form special economic zones to be known as ZDEEPs.
The ZDEEPs offer tax breaks similar to those of the free zones. But there is a difference: free zones can only export their production, while the ZDEEPs can sell both in Guatemala and overseas.
Official sources say that there are three zones already being proposed. One is near the Mexican border at Tecún Umán, San Marcos, another at Puerto Quetzal and a third at Ciudad Pedro de Alvarado.
