Standard Fruit Company unit Dole and Del Monte announce plant closures

The Standard Fruit Company, the Costa Rican subsidiary of the multinational Dole, announced the shutting down its container yard in Limón, due to the drop in the value of the dollar against the Costa Rican colón.

In Filadelfia, Guanacaste, the multinational Del Monte, also announced the closure of its melon processing plant putting out work some 1.500 workers.

The Del Monte closure is being blamed on low production as well as the drop in the dollar.
