Sweden pulls out of aid projects after 17 years and $350 million in Honduras

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Sweden has withdrawn its aid projects in Honduras that have amounted to $350 million over 17 years. “Progress on the fight against corruption has not been outstanding,” an official said.

The head of Swedish aid projects in Honduras, Jan Robbents, said that the last projects will be concluded by the middle of next year.

Robbents said that corruption, though a problem, was what led to the decision. Sweden is simply cutting about the half of the countries to which it receives aid.
