Taiwan offers springboard for Panama exports
Tuesday, July 6, 2010
Taiwanese authorities in Panama claimed that Panamanian products and companies can use Taiwan as a springboard for trade with mainland China and other emerging markets.
Last month, Taiwan and Beijing signed an accord similar to a free- trade agreement.
Under the accord, Panama’s exports to Taiwan will qualify as tariff- free imports by China. At present, China charges a 9 percent tariff on Panama’s imports.
