Taiwanese president pledges to upgrade Central America ties under truce with China

Thursday, July 8, 2010

Ma Ying-jeou, the Taiwanese president, pledged to continue to upgrade Taiwan's relations with its Central American allies while adhering to his diplomatic truce with China.

Under this policy, Taiwan has engaged peacefully with China in the international arena and does not oppose unofficial economic and trade ties between its allies and China, Ma said.

“This policy has allowed us to further promote bilateral cooperation, which is mutually beneficial,” he said while receiving a delegation led by Jacinto Suarez Espinoza, president of the Central American Parliament.
