Rights of way have been acquired for some $160 million for a projected ‘dry canal’ between the Atlantic and the Pacific in Guatemala.
Corredor Interoceánico was the company that negotiated the rights with the owners of the land that passes through the 371 kilometers of the route.
The system includes a railroad to carry containers between the ports of Puerto Barrios on the Atlantic and Jutiapa on the Pacific. The railroad is expected to cost $3 billion to build and the ports $2 billion.
