Teco Guatemala Holdings sues government on Empresa Eléctrica de Guatemala

US-owned Teco Guatemala Holdings brought an arbitration hearing against the government of Guatemala, due to its decision to reduce added value to the nation’s power distributor, Empresa Eléctrica de Guatemala.

 

Teco had a stake in the distributor since its privatization in 1998 and up to October of this year, when it was taken over by Colombia’s Empresas Públicas de Medellín.

 

Teco originally lodged the complaint in 2009, but only recently it instituted formal proceedings.
