Telefónica and MasterCard launch cellphone payments...

Spain’s Telefónica and MasterCard are to form a joint venture to develop financial solutions for users of cellphones in Latin America.

Customers of Telefónica’s Movistar brand in the region will be able to use payments by means of an electronic purse or receive remittances.

The countries that will be used in the scheme include El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Panama.
