Telefónica beats América Móvil to win first cellular contract signed in Costa Rica

The first cellular contract in Costa Rica was signed in Costa Rica by Spain’s Telefónica. Service is due to begin July 27.

That at least is the government’s target date once the contracts for Telefónica and América Móvil have been approved by the Comptroller’s Office.

Both companies, however, are facing technical difficulties. They are encountering problems with the installation of transmission towers.
