Tocumen update will cost Panama a cool $1 billion

Wednesday, July 25, 2018

The extension and modernization of Tocumen, the biggest airport in Panama and in all of Central America, will cost about $1 billion, according to a senior official, Jairo Triana.

The project is being carried out under a contract with Odebrecht, which originally cost $679 million, plus about $100 million in additional costs.

However a review indicated that there still was work to do in runways and other facilities that were added to the bill.

Triana added that the project will not be 100 percent complete when the World Youth Congress begins in January.
