Gender equality in Costa Rican elections for mayoral posts is being sought by a group of legislators from the Acción Ciudadana in a plea to Sala IV, the nation's supreme court on constitutional issues. The complainants want nominations of all parties to be divided between both men and women.
Terms such as "retrograde" and "restrictive" are being bandied about by feminist movements as a means of describing the current state of affairs, La República reports in Spanish.
