Two polls now point to substantial reduction of poverty in Nicaragua

Nicaraguan poverty indices were sharply reduced during the last three years, according to two parallel polls, made with the participation and advice of the World Bank.

General poverty was reduced by 15.4 percentage points from 2005 to 2009, while extreme poverty was reduced by 7.5 points in the same period.

The real annual per capita consumption index increased by 12 percent in 2009 compared to 2005.
